Re:A few cfm is not going to make a difference…too strong a fan can actually harm your heat transfer sometimes…high draw rate can lead to excessive "channeling", air takes path of least resistance and draws additional air from center of heat sink into flow path (venturi effect). There is such a thing as too big of a fan!

Re:i defer to others in whether or not going from a 21CFM fan to a stronger 25-28CFM makes a huge difference… i just know that the big 38 deltas are loud mothers, and wanted you to be sure you knew what you were getting yourself into….

Re:I know this a plug for another guy, but you might consider using a 60-80mm adapter. This will take up a little more room, but most cases should be able to fit it (unless you have an overhanging powersupply. The benefits are that it lets you have the same (or more) CFM with less RPM's, which translates into MUCH LESS NOISE. Also one person posted that if you have the fan right next to the heatsink, it loses up to 60% of its airflow. You can see his thread here (http://{$MySite}/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=342179).

Re:guy,

those sounds are pretty bad…but not sure what the volume is like…guess I'll just have to plug my TaiSol in now to determine what it sounds like in relativity…

btw…is the difference/performance really different between the stock fan of 21cfm versus some of the slightly louder 25-28 cfm ones? Anyone personal experiences? Just want to make sure mod'ing my tai-sol is worth it.

Re:he ain't kidding when he's talking about how loud those high output Deltas are… here's a site where you can get an idea of how some of the major hs/fans sound in real life… not perfect, but it's better than me telling you that this and that is loud or quiet.. BTW, the FOP-38 has one of those high-output Deltas on there, so you can see exactly how loud that fan is…

Re:hmm…In comparison with some of the boxes at the office (Micron stuff), my fan is definitely humming, sort of like a real size desk fan…

Re:hey tempt- I don't belive you are aware just how loud the 38cfm Delta is. No Power supply fan comes CLOSE to the sound level of this fan. When people say it sounds like a vacuum cleaner, they are not exaggerating. Unless you can accept the equivilant of having a vacuum cleaner on in your room- don't get the Delta.

For low sound- the Sanyon 19.1 cfm fan is ok. You can go up to the YS or Sunnon 60mm fans of around 25cfm for a bit more sound. Really with a Tailsol 742, these fans shoud be ok.

check out 2cooltek (http://www.2cooltek.com) for some fans and the associated cfms and dB levels.

also Plycon (http://www.plycon.com) Millisec (http://www.millisec.com) are ok

Re:Delta it is then. I doubt the noise will be an issue. This 350 is loud as heck to begin with…

now…where are good places to go shop for fans?

Re:I agree.. get the delta.. no question on that if you don't care about your computer sounding like a vacuum cleaner.. LOL.. seriously tho the Delta kicks!

Re:i guess u looking 4 best performance, so yea, get the delta 7000rpm 38 cfm.

otherwise, if u got a cpu ain't very hot, you might consider putting a 486 fan onto that large HS and see if it cools enuf. You shouldn't be able to even hear 486 fan at all through your case, Even in it was the only fan in ur system.

Re:Look on Anand's front page they point to a Delta comparison. Which compares a lesser Delta to the black label loud MOFO. here (http://www2.{$MySite}/webnews.html?newdate=2%2F19%2F2001&frontid=#12186) . It shows good results with the a lesser fan.
