How To Build A Gaming Computer For Under $1000

I would like to add the DFI NF4-D because you can mod it to support SATAII and SLI.
I thought you could only do that with the first few batches? (not read much about it). the DFI was my current choice, but I hadnt noticed it was only SATA 150, bah :/

guy's nb cooler is excellent, i have one on this NF7-S and reported temps are lower than when it had the silly little fan. Zalman have another nb fan, it's gold coloured and flatter (wider base im guessing), which might be better suited for NF4 boards where a tall cooler might interfere with video cards – not sure how big and effective the older zalman nb cooler is though.

Those northbridge fans are annoying little buggers. Can't anyone make one that lasts more than six months without wobbling and growling like the cookie monster?

Actually a tall, passive heatsink would be better than a little slab of aluminum with 1/4" slots with a tiny fan blowing 1 cfm across it destined to fail in a few short months…

I installed the Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge Cooler (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=371030) for my Asus A8N-E. I believe the height of this passive cooler may interfere with graphics cards on some motherboards but there is no problem with the Asus A8N-E.

Re:I <3 my MSI Neo4 Platinum. I don't even notice the Northbridge fan, because I'm always playing music and/or having a huge room fan blowing at me, since my computer is in the hottest room in the house -_-; Anyways, my optical drive is a whole lot louder… The reset CMOS on the Neo4 Platinum is really useful. SATAII support, RAID 5, 8 SATA ports total, dual gigabit LAN, and the ability to fit a PCIe 16x card into the PCIe 4x slot make it a winner :D

Re:A8N-SLI Premium. no northbridge fan :-)

Is there a reason you do not include Asus?
Do you have an opinion concerning claims that Epox uses cheap capacitors?

i have an opinion on that. THATS OLD NEWS! its kind of like saying that AMD's run hot today, because they did 5 years ago.

DFI nF4 Ultra-D(R)

Re:ECS KN1 Extreme, AMD64 3000+ winchester core, mine is great! I just ordered another one for my wife:) the reviews talk about the fan on the northbridge being noisy but mine is real quiet…(yes it is still working;)) got it loaded with 2 gigs of dual channel ram, it has the NF4 chipset…..does everything I want it too, never tried overclocking it, reason being is its just so damn fast now, there is no need:)

Re:I have a ASUS A8N-SLI. Everything runs rock stable for a month even when i overclocked it 400 mhz, and can go higher. Very easy to setup can support X2 with 1008 Bios. Only problem u may have later on is noisy chipset fan but mines good at moment.

Re:I love my ASUS A8N-E. Everything worked the 1st time around & it was only $125. It has everything I need & plenty of room for future upgrades. Can handle up to the FX-57 & X2 CPU's. With a 4 GB max. & 4 SATA connectors, it's hard for me to complain about this board.

Re:I love my MSI Neo4 Plat. Although, I do need a new northbridge fan.
I am seriously debating getting the NEO4 as well, although I have heard about issues with the northbridge fan…although it appears that this is an issue with many manufacturers for nForce4 boards.

I know that MSI, ASUS and others are good about replacing the fan, but sending them the once a system is installed is such a hassle…anyone know if MSI or others intend to upgrade or change this component on future releases?

Re:gotta say the DFI NF4 SLI-DR Board is the best 939 -e board I've worked with

I agree on three of those, but DO NOT get the rs480m2-il. You CANNOT overclock at all, the only thing it lets you change is the cas latency, and the hypertransport multiplier which goes from 1x to 5x. I would like to add the DFI NF4-D because you can mod it to support SATAII and SLI.

i never said the rs480 would be for high performance, nor did you say anything about me saying that, so . it's better for computer illiterate people who just wants a strict budget system. so far all my customers are happy with theirs.

Yeah, sorry I never thought about that :o I was just angry at the fact that I have the rs480m2-il motherboard, and a 3200+ winchester that stays really cool, and I can't overclock it.
