Q: Just got a brand new Pioneer 106s DVD player and want to know what is the best software to use. I have a Geforce 2, but a Radeon in my other computer, so I have access to the ATI DVD software. Would that work with my Geforce 2? Do I WinDVD 3.0? Any help would be appreciated.

Re:I have a K7 1.33ghz and ATI Radeon VIVO Setup, and I'd have to go with the PowerDVD. WinDVD skips, and it seems to me that PowerDVD has a clearer picture, and more distinct sound.

Re:If you have a fast processor 1g+ go with windvd2000
if you have a slower processor go with powerdvd
cause windvd2000…not the newest version, but the previous version have better picture quality then the powerdvd therefore uses more processing power..although you probably wouldn't notice it unless compare them side by side….
If you don't care about that slighly quality difference then the latest version of windvd or powerdvd would be fine…
or if you want hardware decoding, I can sell you a brand new hollywood+ decoder card for $30 including s/h;p
i have a ati video card…so i watch dvd on my computer with the windvd, and if i want i can output it to tv with a decoder card: )

Re:WinDVD 3.0 rules. I too have the Radeon 64 MB DDR and it has its own DVD ware, but it locks up on occasion for some reason. WinDVD does not and the controls are better.
I just installed my 2nd Pioneer 106S . . . love that slot!
You get WinDVD from Intervideo. Just enter WinDVD in your SEARCH window and it will get you there.

Yes it will but the DVD title needs to support DTS also.

Re:WinDVD 3 & PowerDVD 3 are pretty close, but I'd say WinDVD slightly edges out PDVD due to it's sharper image & better sound.

Re:I use the ATI software on my Radeon AIW & I prefer it to WinDVD 2000. Note that this isn't the lastest version of WinDVD though, so the new version may be better. I don't have that though.
The ATI software plays my movies very well and with now skipping. I'm not sure what the sound support is… the website would tell you though. Sound doesn't concern me too much though since I've only got two speakers hooked up to it! If I really want to watch a movie & get the sound experience I'll go into the living room and watch it there!
IMHO: if you can use free (already owned) software to watch DVDs & it'll do everything you need then you'd be better off spending the money that you would have spent on winDVD 3.0 on more DVDs!
