Q: Hi,
Something is weird with my trash on an aux. running under Windows 98SE. For some reason, the trash is worth holding 215 mbs of things I can not remove. The Recycle Bin is a folder icon next to it instead of the regular “Recycle Bin” icon, which looks weird. Im going to try and remove
If some of the files (about 6 at a given time), some of them removed and some say they copy write (they are not). What is puzzling is that I started about 3 folders and when I delete a specific folder, it seems back to 6 folders rebuild. I think its just weird.
Is there an easy way to restore my trash and get rid of that 215 mb file?
TIA,
Sal
Best Answer: The Recycle Bin is only allowed to take up a certain percentage of your computer's main hard drive. Once that percentage is reached the computer will start deleting files automatically. If you right-click on the bin you can change this percentage, make it higher, and thus prevent automatic deletion.

have you tried deleting in safe mode?
Better yet, boot into DOS and delete it there with a /f switch.

Re:Thanks for the reply, but I'd rather not have to reformat the drive right now. I have about 85 gb's of information on this 120 gb drive and nowhere else to put it right now. The drive is actually from a Windows XP Pro machine running a FAT32 files system. I temporarily installed it in a Win98SE machine to copy some files.
The weird files that keep recreating themselves are (Dd2, De17, De18, De19, etc.. Also, there is an Info2 files). When I start trying to delete these files, I can only delete so many and then when I go to delete one of the files, more of the "Dexx" files pop up. I'm up to "De29" now. These files keep replicating themselves and when I go to check the properties for the Recycle Bin, it never gets less than the 215 mb's.
Thanks again.

Re:Format and install 2K or XP (we dont like Windows 98).
I've never heard of this happening, but I hope you can find an easier way of fixing the problem other than an FFR.
Good Luck
