Re:I play halflife for half the day at times:D
Re:guy,
Nothing wrong with that. Matter of fact, it's part of my job description.:)
guy, NCNE
Re:i'm a network tech right now, and that first description is sooooo true. I sit in my office, and watch my D.net stats on the TA proxies for a good portion of the day, lol!!
Re:guy: heh.
Play nice now. You never know who you maybe talking to for a job one day.
But, yes. Network technicians do more entry level, and depending on your organization, probably more hands on stuff.
We don't really have network technicians where I work. At least not in the true sense of the word. So the budding netengs (aka ME!) get to do a lot of the hands on stuff.
You really think that field is in a bit of recession? I think there's still a very strong demand for good qualified people in networking. Some of the people I talk with these days who call themselves network consulants…they couldn't tell me what TCP/IP is…and I wish I were kidding about that. So, if that weeds out those bozos then I'm all for it.
Re:They decide to quit their jobs in the middle of a technology employment recession
<– just gave 3 weeks notice
Edit: Opps, Network Technitions generally do entry level stuff, and ususlly get the most hands on experience.
Network Engineers and Consultants do the above ![]()
Re:bwahahahahah
But to answer your question a network technitian generally installs/troublshoots network communications equipment and cabling. Generally considered an entry level position it is a good place to start it you want to "get the green off ya!" as it is very hands on.
spidey
1st job in 1990 – "network technitian". No kidding.
<edit> not first job, just first job in my field
Re:guy,
You mean to tell me that the restroom is NOT my office?
Mental note to self: Remove desk, phone, and computer out of bathroom stall.
Re:You forgot: peruse message boards looking for smartass comments so that we can fsck with them later.
