Q: All I ever really used Memtest86 +, but thats not for XP, its just for the RAM / computer hardware generally. What software do you use for stress testing of Windows XP? Something you might leave for a few days.
Best Answer: Praveenkumar u shud know what u speak of before u speak. U cannot burn anything unless u have a burner regardless of ur O.S. or how u send files to ur burner. U can rip to ur hard drive without a burner, but need a burner to burn those files to disc. ANSWER; use ur windows media player, it comes with all windows and it's free.

Me I run one 3dmark to test for a crap driver or mistimed memory. Thats it and has never failed.
Re:You can run latest 3DMark in endless loop. That will stress everything but your NIC, HDD, and soundcard.
Re:The OS screws up for a various number of reasons none of which a stress test, even if it did exist would tell you. It wouldn't be predictive enough. There is no point in trying to test it, IMO.
As for the hardware run the test I mentioned above overnight.

It's because you installed buggy drivers or buggy software. I guess you mean you want to make sure the drivers are stable? Well, use the hardware:
Run Prime95 and RTHDRIBL (all settings ALL the way up) at the same time for 24 hours. Stresses the CPU, memory, and graphics card like mad. There is no conceivable reason why you'd need to run that for more than 24 hours.

There is a modualr stress test article out on MSDN for CE I don't see anything for XP. You may read the CE article to get an idea of what you want to do.
To be honest I don't get the point of stress testing the OS. We sepnd a lot of time trying to keep things nice in XP land so it doesn't nerd out on us. Why jack with that?
My reason is that I work on a lot of computers for people and I want to make sure they'll be stable before I give it to them. Running Windows XP with all the hardware turned on for a few days while running some kind of stress-test program seems like a good idea.
What do you mean by all the hardware turned on? It's on when you hit the power button, you don't need software to tell you that.
Run Prime95 or SuperPi for stability testing. I still don't see the point in what you are trying to do.
Why don't you see the point in what I'm trying to do? I want to make sure that (1) the hardware will withstand heat etc. over time and (2) that Windows XP will be stable as an operating system during that time. That's all. I've had XP installs that work great for 2 days then screw up, or hardware that overheats after 40 minutes of use.

Re:I don't stress test the OS, I stress test the hardware. Memtest is good for memory. Try Prime95 for stressing your CPU and RTHDRIBL for stressing your video card. If you can pass 24 hours in each of those 3 tests then you are good to go.
