Q: Just wondering because I heard that the 8000-series AMD X2 are the bottleneck, I just wanted to know what other video cards CPU bottleneck to the system.
Best Answer: Your motherboard probably doesn't have the voltage regulation circuitry needed to allow you to use a multi core processor, so you're stuck with a single core, whether you get a faster one or not. AGP vs PCI Express is like comparing a dirt road to a 8 lane highway, how much traffic can they handle and at what speeds? Your memory is old and slow also, probably PC 2100 or so, you can go to crucial.com to find out. They still sell EIDE hard drives, forget the velociraptor, it's data transfer speeds would need to be reduced to work in your system. I would have to say that it's time to throw in the towel and go ahead and invest in a more modern system. You don't have to spend a lot of money for a decent system. For $499 you can get a system with a 2.8GHz dual core, 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive, CD/DVD burner, and a 19" monitor. It has a PCI E x16 slot and a (replacable) 300 watt ATX power supply. It's not a kick a** system, but it has potential. It's a Dell product, and I speak from experience, they make good products and have excellent customer support. It's worth considering.

Re:The old fx5700 or 9800pro would make the CPU the bottleneck. Forcing you to run a low resolution where the performance of the CPU would have a much greater impact on overall performance.
Re:What types of video cards make the CPU the bottleneck?
Why worry? If you can finally max everything out in a game and the graphics card still isn't the bottleneck, then you should be happy with that you've got a really fast graphics card, not worrying that your CPU (or something else) is a bottleneck.
Re:What types of video cards make the CPU the bottleneck?
It depends on the CPU, the game and the settings you play the game at.

None at the moment except the 8800's
Re:It really doesn't make it bottleneck if the eye candy is turned up enough.
I don't think my Opty is bottlenecking my 8800GTS (and my opty is currently running at 2.5ghz instead of the 2.75 in my sig).
