Q: What happened to the supposed price cuts in Intel chips? I hope they go down, or I shouldnt have canceled my order a week ago. Newegg actually raised its prices . wtf?
Best Answer: In a word.. Crysis.
I agree that for 90% of games (including mmorpgs like Vanguard and Conan) the higher-end cards are overkill.
But Crysis strains even SLI GTX 280 rigs (for people attempting to play on their impress-the-neighbors 27" and larger monitors)
I have an original 8800GTS myself- while it can play Crysis maxed at 1280×1024, it won't even crack 20fps at 2560×1600. So for those people who feel a compelling need to humble the neighbors with their gaming rigs, expensive cards provide an impressive way to do so.
Also, those high-end cards remain viable for a longer period of time. Three years from now, a Radeon 4670 probably won't meet the requirements of most new games, but a Radeon 4870X2 will be fine.

I was under the impression that the P4 2.4B chips would be dropping about 15% based on 2 other "price drop" reports I've read… that's why I havent made any purchases yet.
If the 3.0GHz chips are released tomorrow, who know how long it'll be before the price drops reach the mom-and-pop computer places… I dont know how much longer I can wait!
Re:Only P4 price drops were on 2.8, 2.66 and 2.6Ghz CPus. All Celerons were reduced also.
Nov 17th price drop is on Zeons only.

I've been waiting 3 months for AMD chips here to move, they haven't budged except for the 2100+'s and higher.
