Q: It is a Celeron 2.8 with 512 MB ram and the onboard Intel video card. I could barely play half life 2.
However, I can play Halo 1 quite well. Also, I can play games such as Need for Speed, NFS3 etc.
What games do you think I can buy that will play on my computer? Just the normal 30 fps would do well. Not looking for beautiful things or whatever. Just a good solid game.
Re:Assuming you have a 3d accelerator…
Deus Ex.
No One Lives Forever.
Splinter Cell.
Theif 2.
Half-Life.
Some were mentioned already, possibly over once…I'll remention for emphasis:)
Re:Do you have a used computer parts place or a pawn shop around there? If so, look for a used AGP card for cheap.
It really depends what you think you can get out of that onboard chipset but most separate cards made in the past 4-5 years
will play stuff decently if you turn down the graphics resolution/eye candy.
Re:Mafia and Hitman 2 would probably run great.
Re:Call of Duty should run.

Alien vs. Predator 2 was fun, and had decent multiplayer. NOLF2 was awesome and would run fine.I dunno. I have both of those and while they seem low-end by todays standards, I dont think they would run well on an Intel Integrated chip.
EDIT:
And I support the previous suggestion to slap in a cheap video card. A 9600 will actually play quite a few older games.
Maybe even some newer stuff if you're willing to turn the settings down to minimum.
Re:I have a PII in the basement, just curious, what could i run on that thing?
Re:Does it have an AGP slot? If it does, you can get a cheap DX9 card and your options will increase exponentially, as well as eye candy. Even a $40 card will be better than onboard video.
Something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814153028).
You could even play Doom 3 at 800×600 with it, and HL2 would run great at 1024×768.

Re:Hot Deals forum has a thread on a PCI (not PCI-E) Geforce 6200 card for $30, that's about twice as fast as your intel onboard graphics and would widen your choices.
Doom 1 – 2
Blood 1 (2 only seems to work on 3dfx cards
)
Duke 3D
Unreal
No One Lives Forever 1 – 2
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
Re:If you're a BattleMech guy, pick up the Mechwarrior4 Compilation for $20, that's the full MW4 Vengeance, full MW4 Mercenaries, the Black Knight expansion for Vengeance (basically another full-length game) and I think you get the 'Mech Paks to add some extra 'mechs to your options too. Your rig isn't great but it should be OK for these.
Re:The Thief games are all pretty good 1, 2 and then Deadly Shadows. DE 1 without a doubt and even System Shock 2 if you haven't played it yet.
Re:i would say the ol star wars dark forces: jedi knight games. need for speed porsche unleashed.
Re:Yea Quake 3 Arena, Dues Ex, Half Life 1, etc.
All you would need to play HL2 at good settings is a low-mid range graphics card. On the front page of newegg's video card section there's a Sapphire X1600PRO for $95 which will play even the very latest stuff, and then there's 5500s, 6200s, and 9600s of various kinds for $50-70.
Re:WTH, I came in here expecting a P2-P3 era machine. That's not ancient, it just sucks.
Anything based off the Quake 3 or original Unreal Tournament engine should be fine at moderate details. I suggest Deus Ex if you've never played it.

Maybe Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
