Which ATA 66/100 controller card? [hd maxtor] [abit bx6]

Q: I will be picking up a new HD (Maxtor 7200 rpm) and wanted to know what the best controller card available.
I a REV2 MB . thxs

Best Answer: WHAT A LONG QUESTION…..

I would say nol. 2

Here is why…..

The CPU's are the same so dont worry about that
RAM is the same
Has the Most HD capacity
it doesnt have the best graphics card – the 1st one does
Sound is a good price – its decent for the price

and pretty much everyting else is better

hope it helps

I know this article is a little old, but I still don't think that the hard drives are really taking advantage of the Ultra 66 spec. I remember learning this myself in an earlier thread on this bbs, but it was awhile ago so I can't specify. If you ask around I think most will agree though …

Re:to 1DJCHERNY:
really I dont need a controller card for this drive?…Since my MB doesnt support it,if I install it will run at 33 correct? So the difference between ata33 and 66 is that small? I have plenty of open slots on my MB……

Re:guy,

do you need a new controller card because your motherboard's slots are full? If not, don't bother getting a new card. You really won't see much difference running the hard drive at Ultra 66 versus Ultra 33, the real difference is with the drive's rpm and sustainable transfer rates.

Re:I used to have a Promise ATA-66 card in my old Abit LM6 board, it never gave me any problems so a Promise ATA-66/100 would be a good choice.
