Q: What non-offial ATI drivers?
I am new to these forums. I have researched how to make most of my video card, expecially focused on Battlefield 2. I wish you the most up-to-date advice on this subject .
Im looking for max FPS and relatively high resolutions (1600×1200) for competitive gaming . I do not care about the land quality or texture quality. I understand that non-official ATI drivers (such as omega) better opportunities to achieve this through improved customization and other optimizations.
Care to recommend that ati driver fire (NGOs, omega, warcat, etc) is best suited for these objectives in BF2?
Also I would like to target specific optimizations know. Cool
PS answers are very technical: I have a stock x800xl @ [AGP], 2GB RAM @ 1T, amd64 3200 venice @ stock, ASRock939,
Re:overclock your CPU and use the Cat 6's
Re:Last I checked the Omega drivers caused all sorts of graphic anomalies.
Re:meh I want at least 60 fps, but optimally I would be vsynced at 85hz or so.
I will begin oc'ing very soon. Is there a way to monitor the temperature on the x800xl? The only 'limit-test' i know of is the 'scan for visual artifacts' feature in ATI Tray Tools.
Also, I have tried the ngo drivers….I experience a very slight performance drop with them. On to the next one.
Re:Another vote for Catalyst.
If textures don't matter, simply turn down the detail (in game settings) and get at it.
Your post reminds me of the old hardcore Quake3 players who refused to play above 640X480 as their framerates dropped below 200.
As for tweaking see: http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html
Re:Haven't even heard of warcat! Were do you get them? Best thing to do is to download and install each driver and test it in game. Use FRAPS or if you can find a timedemo to download or some way to benchmark each driver in the game itself. I've tied the Omega's and NGO's and didn't really see much if any improvement in fps. Best way is what you said- keep turning down settings. What fps range are you hoping to hit?
P.S. Even though X800XL's aren't overclocking champions, OC that vid card as high as possible!!
Re:None. Catalyst is the best driver to choose. I wouldn't recommend anything other than official drivers. You get zero tech support if you use unofficial drivers and they often hurt more than help. If you don't care about terrain quality or texture quality, then you can get best FPS now with what you've got.
