Q: non-Apple. : D
I bought a new workstation about 2 months ago and still have not used it yet. Ive gotten to the point where I need to then migrate to, but I have no damn clue what OS to use. XP 64bit is not supported seems a joke, but a good release Vista seems to be reduced each month.
I tried to install XP Pro, but I get an “Error Loading Operating System” deal. At first I thought it was because of the 64-processor, but I think I have the solution (hard disk problem found) so Im going to try again to reinstall.
With all this talk about the core 2 duo, how the heck are you using it? (Note I am not a hardware geek)

Best Answer: You must not.Its illegal.Apple SLA says that you should install OSX on Apple computers only.
But FYI it is possible to run modified version of OSX on Windows based laptops.

You're going to need to give more details on how KDE is vastly superior if you seriously expect people to consider switching.

Re:ive had both xp pro / xp mce 2005 installed with no problems. just gotta remember to get all the windows updates before installing your other programs like device drivers/software to get good behavior. at least that was my problem when i realized acdsee and textpad and dreamweaver were messing up.

Re:XP 64bit seems like an unsupported joke, while a good Vista release seems to be being pushed back every month.
XP64 should be fine as long as all of your hardware has good 64-bit drivers and Vista's been RTM for a bit now, it's release is essentially set in stone and people with the more expensive software subscriptions already have their copies.

EM64T chips run 32-bit software just fine, most likely you an unsupported SATA controller onboard and forgot to hit F6 and give the installer the right driver.

Mines not a Core 2 Duo but it's dual core and I'm still using the machine same way I've always used it, adding another core doesn't really change much. Although I've had SMP machines for years so the only real difference is that I've got 1 socket with 2 cores instead of 2 seperate sockets now.
Re:In the consumer market what processor you use has no effect on what software you can run. Your issues are stemming from other problems.
Are you attempting to do a clean installation of Windows (good practice for new motherboard/processor)? Are you using a SATA or SCSI drive? Are the drivers installed correctly?
