Which OS I can run on a 80 MB disk?

Q: besides regular old DOS?

Best Answer: I would expect better performance with windows and the pagefile on physically separate disks, even if one disk is slower than the other.

That being said, I wouldn't expect to see a really noticeable improvement unless you're running a system with a very small amount of ram.

Re:Sounds like it's time to hunt around for some Dell laptop coupon codes

Re:i'd spring for a <10gb hdd… im sure one can be had for like 10usd. THat is if that old lappy takes 3.5", a 2.5" might be more than a couple of bucks.

Re:I never thought about BeOS – though I have several versions. That might be fun to tinker with again. I've got bigger drives, but was hoping to recycle this one into circulation.

Re:Both Damn Small Linux and Puppy Linux would work great on a 80mb drive. Each download is only 50-60mb and I keep DSL and Puppy on those mini-CDRW discs for easy access.

You'd be suprised what all is included with the OS. Obviously, they don't have the features of the full-featured distros like Ubuntu, MEPIS, etc., but I was so impressed with DSL, I thought about putting it on my laptop since it's so lightweight.

Re:A trimmed BeOS would run in 80mb, and probably be better than any of the others offered.

If you want a bigger drive, I have a 4GB I could sell you.

Re:any live cd version of linux should work I would think…

Re:puppy linux. full gui in like 60 megs, so you have some room for data or extra apps.

Re:I believe that Win95A can fit under 80.
I recall that NT4 was also under 100mb

Re:System probably won't have a CD drive (i'll borrow from another laptop to setup)

Re:Yeah, you could use any one of a number of whittled-down linux distros. Even more possibly, a LiveCD such as slax.

Re:Damn Small Linux? Sorry cant give you more info, I just started looking at it last night.

Re:'Caus I paid good money for it a while back and I have a old laptop that needs a drive.

Re:My question is…why would you want to?

Re:I'd say Win 3.1 is about as far as you're going to go with that.

Personally I'd just get rid of the drive.

Re:Win 3.1 might fit in that. and their was a project that fit win95 down that small if I recall, also some minimal Linux installs might work or you could just run them from CD.
