Why can not I open more than 20 IE windows (v6.x)? [virtual memory] [sempron 3100]

Q: Computer: , 1gig RAM, WinXP managing

i have two monitors on two video cards:
agp: Radeon 9600 128meg u003e-20 “LCD @ 1600×1200
PCI: Raideon 64meg u003e 7000-20″ LCD @ 1600×1200

I open up multiple IE windows divided between the two LCDs. After about 20, i cannot open more. new or just pop all my IE windows disappear.

And when I manually close all IE windows, I can only open about 15 new projects. Its like I lost some resources.

i restart with a “reset” things.

So whats wrong? and how to solve?

(And pls dont say try Firefox or IE v7 for tabbed windows. I want to know why this happens to my system.)

I just opened 25 windows of IE 6, so it's definately not right. I'd go into the manage add-ons section and disable all add-ons then try opening 20+ copies again.

holy crap..

Add-ons:
cnavextbho class (Norton antivirus browser helper object)
Google (toolbar)
Google Toolbar helper
Norton Antivirus (toolbar) <—— WTF?! I dont have a norton antivirus toolbar
Shockwave
SSVHelper Class (Sun Java browser helper object)
SS Java Console (Sun Java browser extension)

Is this why i cant open more than 20?

If so, what can i disable?
Disable them all. If the problem continues, than an add-on was not the fault. But if it goes away, you know one of them is the problem. And Norton probably came bundled with the Google toolbar.

Each IE window takes up 30 meg of memory according to task manager. Does this sound normal?!?!?!?!
That's normal

Those seems to be unusually high video settings for those graphic cards. I wonder if that may have something to do with it. Speculation, of course. Do you have a better card with higher mem to test it out with?

BTW, I use to get porn popups in greater quantity than that. :P
Those cards support that resolution. It only takes 8mb ram to display 1600×1200 at 32 bit color.

And how do i find out how much GDI resources i'm currently using, and how many i have left? And how many each object is taking up?

Re:GDI resources for things like icons, menus, etc are shared between threads so once you hit a certain size you won't be able to open any more functional IE windows but 20 seems really low. I can't test right now but I know I've been able to open more than that in Win2K in VMWare, so I don't know why your system would be doing that.

Isn't there an option to open all new IE windows in a new process? That might take care of it.
