Q: I have this shortcut for entering www. and. com since IE4 was released on Win95. For some reason, I keep running into machines that the existence of the shortcut to ignore. On one job, I am increasingly irritated because virtually every computer owner builds somehow does not recognize the shortcut. I am typing this on an XP Pro machine that does not even do! It must be the software he installs. All I know that he puts on every PC mIRC! Even at my other job is there a Win95 PC with IE5 or 6 that do not support the shortcut. There is nothing there that seems to affect. At first I thought it was because they did not have the IE4 Desktop Update, but then I found that it works on other systems.
A 95a has little help? : D

Re:Opera doesn't even need it. Just type in the root part of a domain and you're in (tested for COMs at least). IE goes out to a search engine which is somewhat helpful.

I'd also like to see them give shift+enter for .net addresses and maybe alt+enter for .org's … but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I've also seen and been agitated by some machines having it and some not… your post drove me over the edge so I had to find out.
After some searching through the settings, I found it!
Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> AutoComplete and make sure "Web Addresses" is checked.
Just to be sure, I unchecked it and suddenly Ctrl+Enter no longer worked. Rechecked it and life is good again!
Thanks for pushing me to do something I'd meant to do but kept putting off!

Thanks! Worked like a charm on this computer! I wonder why MS doesn't seperate the options and leave CTRL+ENTER available (It's not the same as Auto-Complete)? I think some of the work PCs I've ran into had Auto-Complete enabled and still didn't work with it. I'm now wondering how it keeps getting disabled on these other PCs at my other job…
