Q: I have two computers connected in my house. My desktop is connected via Ethernet cable to a Siemens Speed Stream Router Wireless, and then my laptop is connected to a Dell 802.11b PCMCIA card (Gold Ornico gut I believe) 0.
Anyways, the internet connection for both computer works flawlessly. However, when I try to browse folders on the other computer, it takes a long time for that folder. Meaning, if I click a shared folder on another computer, its just for 30 + seconds, then the contents of the folder. If I try to file a copy of the other computer, the speed of transfer is very good and I expect its only the first connection to the real folders slow.
It is the same regardless of which computer I am on, and Im trying to access.
Anybody know the cause of this could be?
Thanks

Re:on both computers? Its a windows issue. I think windows does not know who is the browse master, especially if one of the computers roams. laptops still think they are browse masters…Its absolutely idiotic programming by M$ and its been their forever. win98 is even worse.
I have a samba server and it keeps everything nice and snappy. even windows to windows connections are faster. this is because samba is the browse master I believe.
Re:Actually, I'm using WinXP Pro. I've installed Service Pack 1a as well.
Any other ideas?
Re:What OS are you using? I had to get a reg fix for Win2k in order to fix that problem. Basically, Win2k looks for scheduled tasks and other stuff, wich add a considerable delay to the process. Run the reg patch, and they'll open up instantly.
I would send you the patch, but my Windows is in spanish. I don't know of the reg file would work with other versions.
