Why is my C drive so low on space? [c drive] [disk space]

Q: I keep getting that little warning, and I check my and it shows that I only have 200mb of the remaining 4.87 GB have. The problem is that I almost never save and when I check all files / folders in C: “It shows I only used up about 2.5 GB . whats the deal?

PS: select Yes, Ive seen together and all the hidden items, or even equal ~ 2.5 GB

Best Answer: Well, if it's using space on ur before going to E, then it means the temp file is saving to your first. When the temp file is complete it moves to wherever you wanted it.

My suggestion is clear enough space to allow it to do what it needs to. That's probably easiest.

It may also be good to check your temporary files to see if the file is still there, even after moving to disk E. If it is, clear ur unnecessary temp files and that should help.

I'm not the most proficient with technology, and I didn't do any research, that's just what may be happening based on my knowledge. Hope that helps, even though you were probably looking for a better solution than clear up some space. Sorry, but that's the best I've got. :)

Re:Make sure you don't have "synchronize offline files" or whatever it's called enabled….you probably don't, you'd probably know if you did.

Re:Don't forget Temp files. Run Disk Clean UP and see what is there.

Re:Get "scanner" from here: http://www.steffengerlach.de/freeware/ and see what directories are using all your space.

right click my computer>properties>system restore tab

disable it if you want to regain that space but as a result you won't be able to roll back to a previous state.

… but also prevents alot of problems later. Many of the current viruses and hijacks are "attaching" to the restore files so you keep reinfecting yourself. Almost all of the manual virus removal instructions start with "Disable system restore…"

Re:hibernation is when you computer writes everything in memory to the HD so it can shut down completly and than when it comes out of hibernation it writes the stuff on the HD back to the rma and starts right where you left off.

Re:Okay, I see it….what should I set it to?

Also, it says it only accounts for 768mb-1.5gb…. there is still some mysterious loss of space left…

What is hibernation?

Re:Right Click My COmputer->Properties->Advanced->Performance Settings->Advanced->Page File

Or something like that to see your pagefile settings.

Re:system restore, page file and hibernation are likely your problem.

Re:Yes, I do have 3 partitions. I don't think this is likely the problem though. 1.) I have enough space on my other two. 2.) I've looked through alot of the folders on C:, and there aren't really any large, unecessary files.

What is the page file? Can it account for 2GB of space though?

Recycle Bin is empty.

What is hibernation?

Re:If you have hibernation enabled, you'll have a file created equal to the amount of RAM you have as well. If you want a cool tool to help you visually look at file sizes on your machine, check out SequoiaView.

Re:make sure your recycle bin is empty too

Re:Is your page file located on your C: drive, it wont show up when you select all files like that.

Re:How many partitions do you have? It may be that another partition is filled up, and you're trying to save to that one
