Q: Hi there,
Im surprised by this phenomenon . I tried to download some stuff from a private tracker (which I am a member) in the past week, dragged her sorry ass and uTorrent on 0,5-0.8 kb / s. . I was crazy.
In the last moment I remembered that someone else (here, AT, in the original thread uTorrent) had observed a marked difference in speed between this and the ubiquitous Azureus.
Same institution, the same ports . Azureus gets 9 kb / s!
Why?

When it's on DHT though, it tells you. I've noticed it too. I don't know why, so i'll stick with Azureus right now, since the system has 1gb of ram and does absolutely nothing but downloads/uploads.

BTW, i find download speeds to be considerably better with uTorrent than Azureus on public sites.
On private, speeds are about the same.
Have you configured your ports to be forwarded?
