Q: Ok, I try to send files to my brother-in computer, we are all in the same network. When I click on their computer, the Askes freaking me the user login and password. Goodness, does not have his computer password! If he starts, go directly to the startup screen, it does not ask for a password. So like now I can not log into his computer to send files. Is there a default password or something I can use?
Best Answer: You might want to try the system recovery. While your computer is booting up, hit F10.

Re:I think even when you enable file sharing, you have to have a user name and password. I don't remember exactly what XP will let you do via the network without a password assigned. I know for a fact that Remote Desktop won't work if the user doesn't have a password assigned. The same may be true for file sharing. I've got the simple file sharing turned off and all the user accounts on my PC have passwords, so I can't say for sure.

It's working the way it's supposed to work. You need a password to log onto his machine. Have him make you an account and assign you a password.
If his brother does the "just enable file sharing" you won't need a password… then again it makes the PC more vulnerable to hackers, but if you aren't worried about people hacking it on your LAN and you have a good firewall, it shouldn't be a problem
