That is the same exact problem I had except that after a little while my comp just stopped booting all together. After testing all my components in a buddies comp I found that my cpu died.

So if anyone has a retail HSF for an athlon 1.4 tbird (threw mine away) I would be happy to get it from you.

Well I took the cpu out and put in a know working system and the sytem will not boot.
CPU is dead.
One out of four sticks of RAM bad.
Mother board will not work with a know working cpu and memory.
I RMA the memory to Kingston
I RMA the motherboard to ASUS
I am now going to try to RMA the cpu to intel.

Re:Does the motherboard support registered RAM? Maybe the memory refresh circuitry can't handle the load of 2GB. I don't have any links handy – there was a good one too, maybe at Crucial's website, a guide on RAM – on the workings of this. I'll describe it as best and simply as I can remember.
The refresh circuitry has to keep the RAM's capacitors charged, or else they will lose data. If there's too many banks to charge, data integrity can't be maintained.
Registered RAM has an extra chip or something, that distributes charges to the chips better…something like that. Basically, it lets the motherboard refresh the RAM better.

I think the mobo is dying.
This is the second ASUS P4P800 Deluxe board that has died. Time to move on to ABIT IS7 or AI7.

I could be the power supply and not the memory. I had a system that had a bunch of errors in memtest and it ended up being a bad PS.

Well the memory I left in the computer checks out fine with the memory tester and if I put back the other (bad memory) back in it fails.

Re:I switch out the video card and still can't stop the rebooting.
So it is the cpu or the motherboard. The Asus P4B800 Deluxe was replaced once before for a bad BIOS.
Maybe should go with the IS7 by ABIT.
Is thier a way for me to test the cpu without putting it in a different mobo?

I guess I will switch out the video card.
What about the cpu, how do I know it is ok. I have no problem in the BIOS only when it tries to go in windows.

Re:Hi again.
This computer will not let me reinstall WIN XP Pro.
every time the computer gets past Windows Splash screen it gives a quick look of a blue screen then reboot.
When I try to reinstall Windows… After the windows install program reboots the computer and before it installs XP it reboots so it never gets the chance to repair any files.
guyory checks out fine.
This is a Asus P4B800 Deluxe w/P4 3.0gig C cpu.
Any ideas?

Re:Thanks,
I'll grab his computer and do a repair install tonight.
If that does not fix it then I will go for the fresh install.

Yes it should work, if not a clean install should fix it,I had to reinstall my XP OS after a bad stick of faulty ram.

Ooops!…Sorry I missed you had already run guytest86 in your earlier post, old age on my part ;) .

Re:Originally posted by: guy
Have you tested it with one stick and used different slots? It's possible you may have a bad RAM slot.

Yes I did, no the ram slots seem fine.
I did run memtest86 again and found no bad memory with the remaining memory.
