Re:I'm guessing you're using a Via base Mobo…have you tried to install the newest 4in1 drivers which you can get Here (http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2). Might or might not work but worth a try.

Re:I have a USB printer running a-OK. Also have a universal remote control which I connect via UBS to update and it works.
It's the strangest thing. Bought a Canon LiDE 30 today and will try and install. If it's a disaster, I will disable the USB ports and add an Adaptec USB2 card and see if that solves the problems. Fingers crossed. :Q

Re:Yeah I'm with guy check out your USB ports first. Have you tried other USB devices? Have you checked to make sure USB is not disabled in the bios?

Re:Thanks. I was able to talk with someone at Epson and they said it sounds like my PC is in "bad shape." They had not come across errors like mine before and promise to get back to me. We'll see.

Re:No, unfortunately that does not work. Believe me, I tried it three times.
The problem is with my PC and how it is configured. Only, I have not a clue as to how to go about fixing it. I have searched through the Bios for anything that might seem out of whack and come up short. (which is good, I think). I've been at this since this morning, not counting my days and days trying to get the Umax working.
There has to be an explanation, but what that is, I wouldn't know. It doesn't help that Microsoft has no idea what "Toll free support" is. I bought an OEM CD anyway, so I'd be forced to pay them for help. :disgust:

Re:Using your Umax scanner, download this (ftp://ftp.zdnet.de/pcpro/treiber/scanner/umax/vs375u.exe) driver set. Then, update your software using this (ftp://ftp.umax.com/scanners/vistascan/version3.75/winXP/vs375u_382upd.exe) patch.
