Win2k Pro: Everything works fine except I can not ping anything or LAN games . HELP! [transmit failed error code 65] [lan games]

Q: Hi there, just

I setup another computer in my house, a new installation of Windows 2000 Professional, and its on my wireless network and everything to do with net access and access to the file server is perfect on that machine works, except for one problem: it will not ping anything on the LAN and thus will not work. The ping error message says “Sending failed. Error code 1965. “Does anyone have any idea why this can happen? I have never seen .

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!: D

Best Answer: Use a crossover cable which is a cat 5 ethernet cable made to "crossover". Then go start menu > my network places > and in the top left in the details pane you will see "view network connections. Click it and in the same place of the new window you will see create a new connection. Then follow the wizard.

There are other ways, in fact many. If this one does not work for you feel free to email or IM me and I will gladly help.

Re:Thanks for the tip on that knowledge base question, guys! That gave me an idea. I remembered that I had put ZoneAlarm Pro on there but had removed it from the startup folder so it wouldn't start with the computer anymore. Well, I forgot that the puter was now on 2k and that ZAP has services that were still loading, and they were obviously blocking everything then. I uninstalled ZAP completely and now it works perfect! Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help!!!!

Re:Bump! I really need some help here! AOLIM won't even work on there because of this…

Re:1. Not available.
2. Latest are on there–I use those same drivers on 3 other computers.
3. Yes, SP2.
4. No, I don't use Microsoft Update. :)

Anything else?

Re:-If available, try another network card.
-Look for updated drivers for the NIC.
-All Service Packs and the appropriate OS updates downloaded from MS?
-If there was one there, did you download the network card driver from MS via WindowsUpdate? If so, remove it, cause problems have arose from MS drivers.

Give those a go.

Good luck!

Re:Thanks for your reply.

The thing is, the other computers in the network can ping the router and all other computers just fine, it's this individual system that isn't working correctly. It won't ping ANYTHING, whether it be on the LAN or on the Internet. It's really wierd! And, consequently, as I said before, I cannot play with that system whereas the other systems on the LAN are perfectly fine.

Anymore suggestions!?

Thanks! :D

Re:Your router or firewall (be it software based or physical hardware) is probably blocking ICMP ping traffic. Check your firewall logs.

You probably gotter too tight for LAN fun.
