Win98 – a way to shortcut a Network Neighborhood in my computer? [network neighborhood]

Re:Originally posted by: guy
Thanks for the info. I see that it should work, and it does work with the recycle bin, but when I try this with I get a nameless network icon in my computer, and when i double-click it notepad opens up. I got the clsid from here. (http://www.activewin.com/tips/reg/desktop_4.shtml)

Edit: I think I'm just going to get around this by setting all folders to open in Explorer style.

yeah i tried my method above but i ran into problems trying to put the my documents folder (caused explorer to crash) and my network places (acts like a link to "search network computers" or whatever), but hey it was a good try

Re: only appears on 9x machines if there is an active network. I believe you have to have a NIC and a network client active in order to display the icon on your desktop.
If you have that, and no icon, then you have a problem?
It?s been a while, but that?s how I remember it.

Hope that helps

Re:yeah you can do this pretty easily, you just have to find out what the clsid is for the folder is and then add it to the registry under this key

hklm/software/microsoft/windows/current version/explorer/my computer/namespace

add a key under namespace with the name equal to the clsid of the folder and set the default value of this new key to "" or whatever you like

its not hard

edit: if you cant figure it out then PM me and i can email you a reg file that you can just double click

Re:Do you have the icon on your desktop?

Re:I just find it annoying, I always click on My Computer out of habit, then have to go back to get to .

Re:I don't think it's possible….I have to ask though. Why? It's already there if you use Explorer.
