Re:I had a similar problem with my KT7A133…
I wanted to put my HD on the HPT370 Controller and the CDROM and CDRW each on it's own IDE port. Guess what ? I couldn't enable DMA on both IDE devices…the HD was fine, but there is no way I can enable DMA leaving the HD on the raid controller. I put the Hd back to primary master on the ide port, then DMA works again.
Re:er… yeah shuddup =)
I meant I'm not moving it from the VIA IDE ports to the Promice IDE ports, hehe.
Re:<< DVD primary VIA ide, playback is choppy….DVD on secondary IDE, playback is great >>
How is that getting from the primary ide to the secondary ide without moving it?
Re:I'm not moving the DVD, I'm moving the HD.
If the setup is HD on Promise, DVD primary VIA ide, playback is choppy
If the setup is HD on Primary VIA ide, DVD on secondary IDE, playback is great
Re:<< I find it strange that the position of your HDD would have any implication with DVD playback whic is not HDD related at all. >>
Unless of course the DVD ide is on the same ide channel of the HD, and you're having some crosstalk. The driver is still the same no matter which channel you're on as well. Check the DMA of the DVD drive, I'm guessing you're not enabling it when you switch over to the ATA100 channel. Otherwise, try a different cable maybe. In any event, why not just leave it on the ATA66 channel anyway? Your DVD player isn't any faster on a ATA100 channel.
Re:I'm pretty darn sure I have DMA enabled cuz that's what ppl said would give it better performance. As far as driver issues, it's just using whatever drivers Win98 assigned to it, the only drivers I got in the box were for DOS.
Re:I find it strange that the position of your HDD would have any implication with DVD playback whic is not HDD related at all. Given that you haven't ripped the DVD onto your HDD. Could it be W98 driver related given that the problem doesn't occur on w2k?
Re:its probably more DMA related.
