Q: For some odd reason my computer takes forever to names using Windows File Sharing, while everyone loads very quickly to solve. Once they are solved, the fine
Anyone experienced this before? I use a 3com card by the way and have used two others, but still this error
Re:if your running XP or 2000, uncheck QoS in the network properties of your NIC. ok , specificly why ?
thanks
Re:One question…I am trying to share files with the Mac user and I can see \hiscomputer\my folder, but how can I tell him to share a specific folder?…and he doesn't want to use the cmd prompti/expressions/rolleye.gif
Re:I fixed it..well the slow resolution problem anyways…my stupid Norton Internet security was blocking all Netbios and SMB requests and offers. I had to search for the settings.
Hopefully the mac win thing will owrk now.
Re:load netbeui on all machines, unbind netbios from TCP.
Instant working network neighborhood/netbios name resolution. Trust me on this, is solves all browsing problems.
Re:Sorry for the lack of details
I am using Windows XP
I setup an XP PC for a friend of mine and it worked fine, but mine refuses to do so quickly. Unfortunately I do not know where the hosts file is, as i've only edited it in linux(/etc/hosts)
Also, I am trying to enable filesharing between a roomates MAC and our Windows network.
Hs is using SAMBA but only one comp on our network can see it through NetworkNeighborhood.
We are all on the same network and definitely on the same subnet. Anyone have any clues? Manually typing his comps name through a variety of avenues has led me nowhere.
Re:or the hosts file as well. I seldom use the LMHosts file even though its more specifically designed for Computer name resolution. Other than that, if your running XP or 2000, uncheck QoS in the network properties of your NIC.
Re:What is the os on your machine ?? you can edit the lmhost file on your machine to include all other computer on the network, this should give you a quick boost in name resolution.
Re:Try forcing all of the computers connect to switches/hubs to 10 OR 100. Also, verify that the NICs are in "full duplex" mode, as older ones are not and can cause problems with newer ones. If you have one card thats half duplex, they might all need to be half duplex.
Re:no,..
There are two people feeding off of my webramp router/firewall and they are running@10Mbps
Another port goes to the uplink port of a hub in my room which feeds me and someone else.
this is a reoccuring problem though..regardless of what network its on ym computer has always taken forever.
