Windows NT network, DNS names are used instead of NetBIOS names? [netbios names] [windows nt network]

Re:I've been led to believe that if you have SP6a, you can run NT4 DNS only. That would be one thing to check for all the NT workstations…

Re:You will need to run an internal DNS server at the very least.

In most instances, yes.

In fact, ADS works primarily on DNS – I don't think you can even set it up without it if I understand correctly. I've never put one up, but I've done the comm. for quite a few and the common denominator seems to be centered around correct DNS configuration.

windows 2000 active directory, yes i know needs DNS. but for a pure NT domain, can i use dns style names, rather than . that was my question.

Re:just a hypothetical question if it can be done. using DNS servers no WINS in a pure NT4 environment

Re:Why DNS instead of NETBIOS? Why not just set up a WINS server?

Re:I don't think so with NT, what does Microsoft say in the KB?
