Q: I would like to extend the taskbar on my second monitor. At this time, ending just before the first. Is there an easy way to do this?
I I feel like I overlooked something simple.
Best Answer: You get the driver when you buy the card. You can also download it from ATI. Should work

Re:nVidia's software will allow you to do that as well. I use it at work here with a dual-card dual-mon setup without issue.

Re:I use Ultramon, I can not live without it. It is the greatest program. Also, when your 30 day trial runs out, just uninstall and reinstall it, been doing that for almost a year. I have had my task bar on 3 monitors with Ultramon. It also keeps the programs you are using on that monitor attached to the taskbar on that monitor, which is a great feature IMO. With Virtual PC 2004, I can run SBS2003 Premium on one monitor and Windows XP in the other.

Re:Windows. AFAIK, will put the task bar ONLY on the primary monitor.
Take a look at Ultramon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon) which will give you lots of multi-monitor settings, and they have a Smart Taskbar, which will give you a task bar for extra monitors which will display the buttons for the programs that are open.
The "start button" and "system tray" however will still be on your primary monitor.

Re:Thanks guy. Didn't know I could do that
EDIT: I've got quick launch and a folder on the second monitor. Maybe this will make things easier. Not sure yet. ![]()

Re:I don't think extending the task bar is possible with a multiple-card display solution. However, drivers for a single-card multi-display configuration might allow for just that. I know that nVidia does, but I haven't seen a similar option with my Radeon VE at work.
Nonetheless, you *can* do something like moving your QuickLanch part of the taskbar to the second display. In fact, I tend to make taskbar toolbars for the busiest folders in my Start->Programs menu. I just right-click on the taskbar and select "Toolbars…" -> "Add New…" With that option, *any* directory/folder on your system can become its own toolbar on yout taskbar. Once in place and with the taskbar unlocked (IE6+), you should be able to drag any individual toolbar from the taskbar and place it elsewhere on the screen. You can move that individual toolbar to the screen display. Heck, you can even make that toolbar float in the middle of your display. If you move one of these individual toolbars to a screen edge, it will assume a taskbar-like behavior.
You can sorta get a glimpse of what I mean from my old Samurize screenshot (http://www.samurize.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=244). That snap just happens to be from the right-most display of my main home PC (dual-head nVidia).

Re:Only if your video card driver software supports it I think. You can detach toolbars and move them to the other monitor I think. Address, quicklaunch etc.
