Q: So is there anyone with Windows XP play with? What are your experiences?
Here is something interesting about Windows XP and FPS: 977 503 977 503 “If you had the original version of XP that was released in October of 2001, all DirectX games in Windows XP to run on only 75 Hz for each resolution, no matter what your computer is capable of. But if you install Windows XP Service Pack 1, the situation with DirectX games is vastly improved, although still not as good as the “optimal” setting in Windows 98/ME. If you have a DirectX game in XP SP1, the use of the refresh rate that you currently have set in “Display Properties” If your computer supports the same refresh rate setting on the display resolution you play the game. If your computer does not support same refresh rate setting you have set in “Display Properties” on the resolution the game runs on XP then the game just 75 Hz as the original version of XP. So for example, if your desktop resolution “Properties Display “is set to 1024×768 with a refresh rate of 100 Hz, but you ran a DirectX game at 1280×1204, and your computer can only handle 1280×1024 85 Hz, would see that Windows can not run your game at 100 Hz, but Instead of running the game at 85 Hz if your computer is able, instead, only the game at 75 Hz as the original version of XP. “
anyway to get around the above?

Very true. Windows 2000/XP have so many advantages over 9x/ME, that it's no contest at all, even with the refresh rate issue considered.

Re:It`s a well known problem with 2K and XP however there`re plenty of third party fixes for it,I use NVRefreshTool 2.0 from here(for Nvidia cards) (http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=1457) .
NVRefreshTool is a utility used to fix the problem in Windows 2000/XP that sets your refresh rate to 60Hz when you play ANY game. This problem occurs whether or not you have a higher refresh rate set in your Display Properties of Windows.
NVRefreshTool is simple and easy to use. Just load up the NVRefreshTool program and it will automatically detect the maximum refresh rate at each resolution that your monitor supports. If you're an advanced user, you can customize each refresh rate at each resolution.
Currently NVRefreshTool supports all Detonator versions.

Re:i use powerstrip. you can define what refresh rates you want for each resolution that is supported on your video card. It then locks it so when you play a game or something it'll still be that refresh rate. Also has a nice overclocking utility that i use as well.
