Q: Ok, I just upgraded from Win98 tonight and I try to Half-Life TFC (openGL games at 1024×768) but my refresh rate (the game) is only 60Hz. Although my desktop is set to 85Hz (1024×768, 16 u0026 both 32bit). (With my win98 refresh rate in the game would always be my refresh rate on my desktop, ie 85Hz).
Does XP works differently?
I am the latest XP drivers from nVidia (Geforce 2) used. and I have vsync off.
thanks each help.

Best Answer: The refresh rate deals with the monitor and graphics card.
It actually has to deal with both the computer and the monitor in that the graphics card sends the picture to the monitor and the monitor's refresh rate determines how many times per second a new image is sent.
However, when a person sets a game's settings to a refresh rate higher than an actual monitor's setting, it doesn't have any effect on the actual computer performance, there is a lag in the monitor showing the new image as it is getting more data per second than it is meant to.
However, in most cases, the monitor and hardware will disregard a setting to a refresh rate higher than it can handle and run at its set rate.
Ah yes, the world of computers is riddled with subjectivities and relatives.
Re:I use the program: RefreshForce (http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/) and it works flawlessly. It will work with any video card, and any driver version. It is a small .exe that needs not to be installed, just ran. It is independant of the drivers, and if your monitor is plug and play, will automatically determine the optimal refresh rate for different resolutions.
Re:guy is right. It appears the refresh rate bug is a function of Win2K/XP and not the particular version of the Nvidia drivers.
Also, here's my vote for the WHQL 30.82 (latest official) drivers too. I have not used the 40.xx drivers, but I have heard too many problems for those who have used this series.
Re:Not to my knowledge.
As a matter of fact, I have tried some of the 40.xx series and I keep going back to good ole 30.82.
Re:thanks for the info, appreciate it. btw, does anyone know if the detonator 40.xx series fixes this issue as well?
Re:Yea, a problem with winxp makes it so you need the nvidia refresh rate fix.
I'll find a link to it and add it in an edit.
