Winxp not loading at all, just reboot after bluescreen [programs aim] [hardware changes]

Q: Just got WinXP Pro installed on my machine three days ago, noodling around the installation of my programs (ICQ, Winamp, etc), I go to install Norton 2006 last night, and now will not boot. It is my desktop as it normally would, but the start bar hourglassed and let me click. approximately 30 seconds later I get a bluescreen and reboot me . Ive tried to switch my RAM modules around and remove them, checked all my cables etc (although no had been made, simply NAV installed, when it asked me to reboot, I said yes and now it will not come Ive tried F8 – boot from last known good configuration and still does the same thing. Safe Mode will not let me uninstall NAV either. input?

Re:What's the STOP code and parameters (you can get these from the system event log)?

If the last thing you did was install Norton antivirus, the most likely cause of the problem is norton's drivers not playing nice with other drivers on your system. Uninstall Norton from safe mode, or go into safe mode and disable the norton drivers from device manager.

Re:thanks for your help guys i'll check out AVG

Re:zonealarm firewall is the best. the free version is alright to. it will just, at the bigning, overwhelm u with alerts until it learns u habbits. then it works silently and effiecntly. i hate Norton.
it is slow, doesn't find everything, and is expensive. i have ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite. Best product i ever baught. I use its AV engine to. including it AntiSpyware. I also have
Spybot Search and destroy, but it never finds anything because ZoneAlarm blocks it! Also, ZoneAlarm is not subscription based. By it and enjoy. My licnse will last another 52372 days.
umm lets see. 52372/365.25=143.28 years. Somehow i doubt i'll need it then, but gr8 that my family can inherit the faamily Firewall hierloom! lol. NEVER USE NORTON! IT SUCKS!

Re:AVG Free. Get it here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_Free_Edition_d886.html)

I have it on all my computers and install it on every one I build.

Re:Well, my only recourse was to reinstall everything from scratch…..and i haven't installed norton yet, everything else is loaded exactly as it was, i'm not sure if i want to give it another shot and risk spending another hour watching status bars…….does norton suck or what other options do i have? does it have any conflicts with other programs such as ZoneAlarm or Adaware?

Re:Going with BART is a little drastic!

Just go into safe mode, open MSConfig, deselect all startup items and reboot into normal mode. If all is stable, then uninstall Norton and start looking for another product. I personally don?t like Norton. I would go with Avast AV for now and then buy CA Anti-Virus.

If you cannot uninstall Norton and the puter is stable without anything loading then change the names of all the Symantec and Norton folders reboot then toss them into the trash. Then use a third party software like Power Tools to remove any remnants of Norton from you computer.

Re:actually it's Avast! Bart CDText (https://http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_bart_cd.html)

Re:there's only one way to repair that, there's a CD called Avast Bart PE builder just google for it for Info.
