Q: I have an Inspiron laptop. Is there any advantage of using the Dell OS WinXP Pro SP2 as opposed to the use of a non-Dell version of WinXP Pro?
Re:The product key is still required for these installs in some cases, you have it in your documentation or on the bottom of your laptop
Computers from OEMs like Dell are typically built with system locked preinstallation (SLP), which does not require the user to enter a PID or activate. The OEM is required to give the end-user the COA (usually by sticking it on the case), but the end-user should never have to use it.

No

Re:The dell one is a "Image"
It's using SYSPREP or some type of imaging solution (I think Dell uses WINPE, I could ask the Dell MSFT REP) and pushing the image to your machine, rather than running a whole new install.
It has all the drivers built in for your computer, utilities, and in some cases, all that stupid software (just remove the software you don't want)
The product key is still required for these installs in some cases, you have it in your documentation or on the bottom of your laptop.
Re:No real advantage..But the regular XP disk will not put on any "extra" crap (like AOL freetrail..lol) that the DELL one will.
I believe that the DELL one requires no activation, So that would be an advantage..
