Q: Is there a shortcut equivalent to WinKey + L to the computer when you are not a Windows key on your keyboard lock it? (Or am I going to have a program that creates shortcuts download?)

the issue is lack of a windows key in the first place (ThinkPads do not have them)
Right, so remap the wndows key scancode to the caps lock key (or some other key). The idea is that your key labeled caps lock now acts as a windows key. A quick google session turned up This Guy (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1031179384), who remaped some sort of wwwLeft key on his thinkpad to be his windows key. Other messages in that thread contain various approaches to remaping the keyboard.
Now, if you remap caps lock to be your windows key, it is possible alt+caps lock will still work for caps lock, but I have only heard of this working on linux, and am not able to reproduce it on my machine.
ah. remapping scancodes. an interesting read. thanks for the clarification

Hmm, I'm not quite sure how to do this, but…
Why not remap the windows key to the caps lock key, and, if need be, create a caps lock shortcut using Win+someotherkey?
Google has plenty of instructions on how to do the first part, but the second one is left as an exercise for the reader.

that is talking about in a program, this is just running to get the workstation to lock
anyway, i have been using it on a pc without a windows key for many months without anything bad happening, not that i would know if my stack was corrupted
oh well, take it or leave it
i guess you could buy a new keyboard
I can't get a new keyboard. this is the final step before picking up a T43
I guess if i throw in XP Pro, i should be able to do ctrl alt del if the bat file doesn't work out.
Thanks fellas!
I don't think Home or Pro matters, read my above post.
that will do nicely. THANK YOU!!!:D

Re:One more thing:
CTRL + ALT + DELETE + ENTER will not work unless you disable the "Welcome Screen".
Ctrl + Alt + Delete with the Welcome Screen enabled will give you the task manager, with the Welcome Screen disabled you'll get a menu, the first option in the menu is "Lock Computer" hence why enter is used, you can also access the task manager from this menu etc.

Being 'in a program' is no different than executing it on the desktop. Also, Raymond explicitly links to a blog that describes exactly what you are doing.

Re:you can put it into a .bat or .cmd file and make a shortcut to it or right click on your desktop, pick new, shortcut, when it says location, put in
cmd.exe /c rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation
and then on the next screen name it something like "Lock Station" or whatever you like and click finish
Re:Originally posted by: guy
you can make a desktop shortcut to run the following or if you have a way to map a key to that shortcut
run this
rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation
just put "rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation" in a text file or ?

ctrl + alt + delete -> enter
i wonder if it's b/c one of my machines is XP Home, but when i do ctrl alt del, it brings up the task manager. i'd be thrilled to have it bring up the windows security window!
