Q: Weird problem I can not find out.
Wireless social network, main computer hardwired. Normal wireless laptop access to my D-Link router. Laptop is a Sony Vaio with an Intel PRO 2200bg of cards built into it.
Used to work well, until just this morning. Nothing got changed to my knowledge – but heres whats going on.
The wireless card picks up my wireless network just fine (and sometimes the neighbors guaranteed). When I try to connect fails to connect stating “Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. Network is not within range refresh blah blah “.
When I try to network it says Windows could not finish repairing because it could not turn off the wireless network to repair. Make sure adapter is properly installed.
When I try to disable the adapter says it is not possible to switch connection. Connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support plug and play, or it may have been initiated by another user account on the system.
Ive tried device manager and delete again – not good. Updated drivers – no good.
Doing a full format is a last resort. Ran Virus Scanner / Spyware and laptop is clean of all that great.
Laptop works fine when I hardwire to the Ethernet cable. Im really lost now to try something different. Very strange problem, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best Answer: There are lots of things that could be causing your problem. The first thing I'd check is the obvious: are your wireless settings correct? You want to make sure you're connecting to your own wireless router and not someone else's, and you want to make sure you're set up to get a dynamic IP address with DHCP (or that you have a unique static IP address). Your wireless router needs to be set up to do Network Address Translation (NAT), and it needs to be distributing IP addresses via DHCP. If you don't know what all that means, find your nearest computer-knowledgeable friend and get him/her to check.
If you're certain your wireless settings are all correct, then the next thing to do is to reinstall the driver for your network card (if you're using Windows). Sometimes files or settings get corrupted, so this may clear up the issue. If the card came with your computer, then you'll want to find the original disks that came with the computer for the driver, or look up the driver online. If the card was purchased separately, look for the driver on the disk that came with the card.
It's possible you may have a hardware problem. It might be just that the antenna has come loose from your wireless card; if you're able to open your computer and look at it, that should be fairly obvious to see. But don't tinker with it if you can't see the problem right away; you're likely to break something else.
And in the worst cases, you may have to get a new wireless card, because yes, the card may be fried. Or you might have to re-install Windows on your machine, because your Windows installation might be so hopelessly corrupt that only a fresh installation will cure it. Both of those are pretty unappealing options, so I'd try everything else first.

Its built in, and I don't think the intel software will help. As Im having problems with my other desktop accessing it wireless as well. So basically the wired portion of the router works fine, wireless is not working.
Thoughts?
I know it's resolved, but please….if you want help, at least do what we ask/listen. I hate the "I don't think you know what you are talking about so I'm just going to ignore what you say" type posters.

Re:I think the router went bad. I switched to a linksys router and all works well now. Odd problem, not sure why it would work hardwired but not wireless
/me shrugs.
Thanks for the advice though guys.

Re:Try using the intel client. Or possibly your wireless router decided to change settings.
So removing all security and using the intel client. That reduces it to about as fool proof as possible.
