Q: I am creating a new thread, because many of the old problems were solved and new rose.
So Here is my situation, actually my friend situation. She has a wireless network setup in their house and bought a Netgear 802.11b PC card for her laptop. She is in XP, the router recognizes the card in her room, but not a solid connection. What process or steps should I take her to get setup?
Best Answer: Talk to your network admin at work.
Re:Did they ever find the 2wire setup CD? If not, refuse to do another thing until they find it. 2wires are supposed to be idiot-proof (but even 2wire can't do anything about people who lose the software!)
If you've gone through their setup routine and still have problems, you can email or phone 2wire tech support. (Or better yet, let your friends do it.)
AIM works but MSIE doesn't??? I thought it was usually the other way around when people are having problems!
Good luck.
Re:One girl has the orinco gold one I believe and she can't flawlessly connect, she can long on to AIM but can't access the interent through Explorer!
Argh this is giving me a headache! I really want to help her out, never had such a hard time with this before!
Re:Green means good connection, yellow means weak, not sure what "W" means. Makes me suspicious of the hardware, especially if you've tried the other suggestions you got earlier. Can the problem laptop successfully connect to other WAPs? Conversely, can laptops known to connect elsewhere connect ok to this WAP?
Re:I'd try a different NIC orinoco gold if you can find it

Here's the Router:http://www.2wire.com/home/hp_index.html
My friend has Netgear 802.11b card, so what happened was she said it turned SOLID green then it turned yellow with a "W" on it. Does anyone know what that means?
Another girl in the room (same room) gets great connectivity, but can't connect to the internet. (She hasn't configured it yet, I believe but she can connect to the router)
Re:how far from is the computer in her room from the router? how many rooms is it going through? is it able to pick up a decent signal from it?
Re:what WAP or wireless router does she have?
Re:Could you be more specific as to what you mean by "solid connection?" Does she make a connection and then lose it, or what?
I think you said before that she can connect via ethernet, right? If so, then it presumably isn't a problem with not having the network protocols installed.
