Q: I have no experience with Macs but I know that PCs. My friend wants me to a wireless network in his house for his cable modem. He has a Mac G4 in addition to the cable modem and PC 50 meters from it that he wants to play too. I was looking for a Linksys wireless 4-port switch / DSL Router, but I do not know what to hook up the mac to get on the network. I wanted something simple, such as . Ive heard that Macs have wireless capability already built in, but I do not know if they are compatible with Linksys router or not.
Im trying not to have too much money on this. I am open to suggestions, if you have any expierience with similar situations please feel free to share what you did to make work.

Thanks in advance .

I was looking at a wireless Linksys 4 port switch/dsl routerThe "4 port" part will tell you that it can support up to 4 wired clients.
The WAN port is typically not included in the port count.

Re:alright, i just didnt know that the wireless router had a cat5 connection for a computer, i thought that every computer that you wanted to hook up to it needed a wireless adapter. I thought the router only had a cat5 connection for the cable modem. thnx

Re:Go with the wireless router.
Connect the G4 to the router with a CAT5 cable.
Connect the PC to the router using a wireless USB adapter.

well that still leaves me with the PC not on the network.

If you go with the wireless connection, the PC can use it just fine also.

Re:Mac G4s all have built in ethernet, so forget crappy usb stuff. If you want wireless you can get it, but why bother if its right next to the cable modem? It will work with a linksys wireless router if you really want it to though. I have my iBook connec to my OpenBSD machine that is acting as an access point using a linksys card and it works just fine.
