Would be good that I adhese HSF Arctic Silver to the top of my GF3 core? [silver paste] [hsf]

Q: topic says it all. The reason I ask is because I heard that nvidia against using Artic part of on the GPU, and how come manufacureres always use silicon wafers that stuff?

Re:insane3d, how much mroe did you get out of the core?

Re:I put a Alpha 55mm heatsink on a Gainward 128mb Ti200 with some AS thermal adhesive (full strength) and it works great. Slapped on the quietest 50mm fan I could find, and it was good to go. Here are some pics..

By the way, if anyone is interested, I am selling it in the FS/FT forum here. (http://{$MySite}/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=903637)

Re:why would it not be ok? People have been modding their GF3's for quite some time now with ASTE… how long have the GF3's been out? seems like forever…

Re:Either that or because the contact area is pretty big for a geforce, and AS site says don't use for big contact areas like the P4s.

yes its ok
its either that or the ghetto method (a very small dab of superglue/krazy glue in corners with lotsa thermal paste in middle)

and if nvidia suggests to NOT use thermal paste, what are they going to use?? TIM's?! *shudders* :Q

where did you hear this?

Actually, I'd imagine that the "ghetto method" would be better. When using AS epoxy, the AS itself is diluted with epoxy. In the other method, the AS is free to function undiluted, while the epoxy/superglue keeps the heatsink held in place.
I imagine the reason they might advice against Arctic Silver on their GPU's is that it can cause problems if it gushes over the edge onto the contacts.
