Re:I'm also very reluctand in believing that some BIOS code is executed after Windows switch the Athlon to "virtual mode", once did, Windows must have his own drivers to access hardware, BIOS is almost never executed again, until shutdow forces getting back to "real mode". That's wy you can no longer access to RAID disk without a driver (for example), however the Promise BIOS is haging from the BIOS generic "hard disk bios controller, INT 13h", that's wy you can access it form DOS only mode (in Win98), a complete BIOS compatible OS.
If Windows use some BIOS code, it will be under "fail probe mode", you must be using your machinne in this mode, hehehe.

Re:I totally disagree, I think the temperature reading is been taken form the air chaimber that forms betwen the processor and the Socket-A, its in the middle of the socket-A were this termo-reader is located. So, this reading doasn't correspond to core temperature, what builders do?, in the case of Epox , at least, they read the temperature in the air chaimber and throug that to you. ASUS instead, take the temperature in the chaimber, and calculate the aproximate core temperature. I believe, that your chips are actually a little hoter that what you read. This will be fixed when builders take the reading of the Athlon XP internal temp. reader.

Re:<< For months, I ran an Asus A7V133. Nice board, but requires alot of tweaking [i]just to run stable. Also, now that I've gone to Iwill, I am a firm beleiver that Asus boards do run Athlon's waaayy too hot.
Yes I had the same mofo sorry mobo ,it has well know bug in every bios for that mobo from bios ver 1003 on. Basically it makes your amd T bird run at full load all the time . I had a 1.0 gig T bird with a alpha 6035 /artic sliver/ and 7200 black delta fan and three case fans and could never get that cpu below 120f. Which sucks because the most marginal of overclocks would send its temps over 135f and cause heat related crashs
. One of the a7v faqs had a windoze registry hack, but if not perfectly done it had a rep of causing BSD and damage to the registry that would only be corrected with a new reistall of windows. And form the temps with the amd XP Ive seen posted here for asus a7v266e (kt266a) mobo I still think they got the same bug with their via base mobo bios (stock clock amd xp's with temps over 115+ F w/ a7v266e) *my ecs k7s5a has yet to see over 85f full load , friend ali's a7a266 after the bios flash recoginzes amd xps and heavy overclock'n is never over 100f* I not say all asus mobos are bad , asus needs to fire there via bios writters, because they suck.

Re:I think it was either the MB, or possibly a voltage thing (the asus boards sometimes supply a bit extra voltage…. I know other boards do, too, but I am not sure about the kk266-r.

Re:So then it would be the stability of the board itself, not the "lower" temperatures, that let me OC this chip higher than the Asus?

Re:important note to other readers: The KK266-r and derivatives, from data gathered at overclockers.com, is among the more inaccurate socket-a mb's as far as temps. Deviance ranges from 8-15C too low.

But its great that you got that more stability

Re:Yeah, just keep you're other settings. Good to keep the rest of the mobo running smooth. Glad to see you like the Iwill! They're good about their OC'ing stability. What kind of board was it?
