For a newb, getting Eng/Mech/Cruiser/Command/Weapon V will take around 15 days apiece on the last level. Then you need to buy Assault Ships, take that to V, then Heavy Assault and take it to IV. Then add in the necessary weapons skills to make them worthwhile ships and not fat floating targets.

well thats true, I have over 14m skill points so far and yet still it takes me forever to train for some things

No way I'm spending the necessary four months to get Heavy Assault IV. I'm hoping to pick up a Battlecruiser in short order though.

eve isnt marketed in the same way as other games, its mostly just word of mouth. Think the reason is that EVE is way more complex and deeper than other online games and it just isnt for everyone. So by not advertising much they skip all the bother of having thousands of people wanting to join up and right away start to shoot something
