Q: Hi, first off, my system
-AMD Athlon 64 3700 + Stock (2.2) 977 503 – ATI Radeon X800 XL 256MB (Stock) 977 503 – 1GB OCZ PC3200 MSI K8N-Neo4 RAM

Well I am thinking of buying a new graphics card to play CoH. I really want to play on max settings. My budget is 250-270 (not more). So yes I looked up and found the newegg zipzoomfly X1950XT 256, which is intended to be a bit better than the X1900 XT, over $ 260. I have heard and read that the 256 will not allow me to play on Ultra textures? I try the demo with my 800XL and can run at 1280×1024 everything on max settings, except for Structures (High) and Shadows (Medium), getting a 25 FPS average on the performance test. If I try Ultra textures after the crash, its done loading .
So, 512MB is a must to play with the ultrastructure option? If it is, can you help me find a video card that is as good as or even better in same price range? 7900GT? GTO?. I can play Doom 3 with Ultra, and although he tells me that I needed 500MB VRAM it works and I get decent frames per second.

Re:Yeah I will run it at 1280×1024 as long as I can run it at those settings. Don't think I will play multi player though I'm more interested in the campaign.

EDIT: I was able to run max setting with almost the same rig but 2gb of ram. I had the 1900XT 512. You may run into a problem with the 3700 though. Mine couldn't do 4+ multi player games it bogged. So I got a 4800X2 and it fixed the problem.

Um, well 1600×1200 is actually quite a few more pixels on screen than 1680×1050 so any problem playing on the latter would obviously be moreso on the former (though not incredibly so).
I'm fairly certain that the x1950xt 256 should be fine to play the game at 1600×1200 with all max settings, but the extra memory if you upgraded to 512 would help if you had the money. Either way you'll see a fair improvement.

Re:u will need 2gb of sys mem, too, whichever card u get… with 1gb it is constantly hitting the disk…
my kid's pc has an oc'd x1800xt 512, and a 2.8ghz a64, and with 1gb of memory it still lags because of only 1gb of mem (a couple 1gb sticks are on the way)… of course this is with everything turned up at 1680×1050…
