XP can not read disks [floppy disks] [win 98]

Q: My brother just called me and asked if I knew all the bugs with XP. Apparently his entire computer lab to school and home PC can not read any as they come from an older PC (). If you format the disk with Windows XP, it will read fine. Anyone ever heard of this?

Re:where is the patch? link?

Re:Most of the hp mobos have been Asus. IAC, it couldn't hurt to apply the patch just to see what happens.

Re:I had a problem with my floppy & my cdrw/dvd drives & couldn't read from any of them.
It had something to do with Nero 5.5 & NortonAV 2004.
I had to recover to a previous date & install Nero 6 & NAV again.
It seemed strange that it affected the floppy drive & the CD drives.
I only tried 1 or 2 floppies with it & I don't know what version windows formated them
(or DOS).

BUMP!

Re:These are all built by a local company…and my brother has a Samsung floppy in his pc. Just seems odd to me. I had him do all the updates and check viruses…which didn't help. Only other thing I could try is to put another drive in…but why would 30+ pcs all of a sudden have bad floppies?

Re:I think I heard that some models of hp have had floppy problems – not sure what the issue was, but there is info on the hp and M$ sites. IAC, the 1.44 floppy format for PC hasn't changed since they came out with the IBM PC AT, was that around the mid '80s?

Re:It seems he is still having this issue. Anyone else with possiblities? If you put even a blank floppy in the drive it says "Insert floppy" as if its not there. His older XP machines (a year or so) work OK.

Re:No problems here – I do it all the time. It's probably more a head alignment issue than a 98-vs-XP issue.

Re:If I'm reading your post right, guy, you are having the same problem as me.

Re:I'm having just the oppisite problem. It seems that created on older machines (95 and 98) will not recognize, or say they aren't formatted, on my XP machine. Interesting problem, I'm curious to see if anybody will respond with a solution.

Re:Nope, I've swapped disks formatted with XP into 98 machines just fine, and the other way around
