Q: So Im trying to repair my XP Pro reinstall and after the second restart of the device during installation, the screen is black and the system seems to just hang out. I tried to restart several times but I get stuck in one place. Any suggestions on how to get past this problem?
Best Answer: write down your bios information, go to their website (on another computer) get the latest bios update for your motherboard.
I take it you know how to get into bios, if not, F1, F2, and Del keys are common for getting into bios. Press these when the computer first turns on. If these dont work, press and hold a key down on the computer immediately after powering it on. You will get a key stuck error and then options to choose from. BECAREFULL when in bios, certain changes could render your computer useless.
They should have a bios flash that requires a floppy (or multiple floppy disks) Follow the readme that comes with your download.
If that doesnt work, try a different keyboard.
Your system requirements are fine for a XP PRO install.
Re:Use Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image 8.0 to make a backup of your system.
Also – make a slipstreamed copy of Win XP Pro with SP2 to speed up your windows installation – it MAY have helped you past your problem without doing a fresh installation with your old CD.

Re:UPDATE:
I finally got past the issue, I had to install the OS from scratch instead of a repair. Hopefully I won't have to reinstall every app, since I did'nt delete the partition.
Just out of curiosity is there a way I can make a backup of my system to make the reinstall or repair process easier?
Re:But would it be a hardware issue on a reinstall? I was doing a anti-spyware scan and the program detected adware/malware, the app rebooted my PC and its been problems every since. I could'nt get booted backup so I attempted to repair the install and that's when I got the hanging issue during the reinstallation.

Last time this happened to me, it was RAM. The time before that it was a faulty hdd. I was able to get around the faulty HDD by using the drive maker's tools to isolate the bad sectors. The RAM had to be RMAed though.
Re:I've had my screen go black during device installations. It usually comes back after a little bit though.
