XP share w / o using guest account. Plz help [share files] [passwords]

Q: I tried to create other computer users (with their ), but it does not seem to work (keeps saying wrong password). I try to avoid using the guest account as much as possible, but it seems my only option. Does anyone know a way to avoid using the guest account, but still . Help is appreciated

Re:Right next to the sharing tab is the security tab, which is where NTFS permissions are set.

Note that this tab will only appear if you have formatted your drive with NTFS.

Confused… Isn't that basically what win9x was doing? Allowing a "guest" connection?

Re:XP file sharing is a real pain… to deal with it, everyone in my dorm created a user account named the same as the dorm, with the same password, and thats how we do sharing. I prefer the win9x method where you set a user-less password, but haven't figured out any equivalent in XP without allowing guest to login (which will not happen ;) )

Re:Did you add those users to the share permissions on the folder you are trying to share? Also if you are running NTFS you will have to add those users to the NTFS permissions as well.

If you have many users that you need to add, you may want to create a group, add all the users to the group, and add that group to the share and NTFS permissions of the shares. Its much quicker that way.
