YAHL2T: Another Half-Life 2 Thread-install problems [half life 2] [system specs]

Q: It appears that I got for Christmas, like a lot of people. My problem, other than my dislike of the Steam stuff is that it will not install.

4 tries, two different stations. I get this on disk 4:

Im assuming that the disk is a mess. What are my options here? Just back? Can I have steam? Would my system (specs in my sig) 0.

Thanks. I know you are sick of HL2 threads, but I could not find another thread with this problem.

: beer:

You're going to have to connect before you play one way or another…Yeah, I know.

Steam is why I wasn't going to buy HL2.

Re:I'll just add my post about how steam sucks major ass :)
But I guess it's the same as saying the earth is not flat.

you can register you cd key on steam and download it off it

Well, I thought about that, but I don't want to have to be connected to the internet to install this.

I'm old fashioned. If I own a game, I want the disks.

Don't exchange it. That is a known issue on the standard HL2 game. The solution is to install Counter-Strike AND HL2. If you don't install both of them, it will error out on Disc 4. I had the same problem and searched some forums for the answer. :) You can always uninstall Counter-Strike if you don't want it on there. :)

Thanks!

Maybe one day the combined knowledge of the Valve programming staff will give birth to an installer that works.

Maybe. :P

well you would still have the discs only you don't have to use them, and you can always send them back to valve and they'll have to replace them or you can just return the game and get a new set, the quickest way as I see it is install it off steam and then you can either keep the cds or send them to valve and get them replaced

I got the reciept back. I just explained what was going on.

Once the traffic calms down in a few days, I'll go exchange it, assuming I can't get it to work as-is.
